The Aachen-California Network of Academic Exchange, ACalNet, is an expanding network which currently is integrated by four university partners (RWTH Aachen University and University of California campuses at Berkeley, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles), two associated research institutions (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Forschungszentrum Jülich) and two industrial partners (CAT Catalytic Center and Schlumberger-Doll Research Center).

Each of the four partner universities presents a growing number of researchers associated to the network as academic members. In several cases, academic members from a partner university are associated as well to a non-university partner institution. The academic members belong to different departments of the partner institutions, representing the interdisciplinary spirit of the network. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and catalysis, being the main research areas of ACalNet, are approached from a variety of different perspectives by the academic members, as can be observed in their individual research profiles.
