The Research Target of the Leitner Group
The Research Target of the Leitner Group

The long term vision of our scientific activities is to establish an integrated approach to catalysis research, bridging molecular and engineering sciences for sustainable chemical processes.

Based on the specific disciplinary expertise and methodological know-how of our team, we actively engage in collaborations with neighbouring disciplines for a systematic and rational development of modern catalysis sciences.

Our scientific approach is based on the design and preparation of organometallic catalysts, the search for new or improved chemical transformations, and the exploitation of alternative fluids as reaction media for new concepts for reaction engineering of integrated catalysis.

Research topics currently focus on (i) the selective catalytic conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into tailor-made fuels and products, (ii) the utilization of CO2 as raw material and synthetic building block at the interface of the energetic and chemical supply chain, and (iii) the development of flow systems for molecular catalysis with a particular focus on asymmetric synthesis in the pharmaceutical industry.
